Newsletter August 2026. A new season of Sunday concerts for the Autumn
We’re back!
Dear Fellow Music Lover,
The Early 2026 series now seems such a long tIme ago! It’s hard to remember feeling cold, and finding storage for all those dripping umbrellas - I am sitting in 30 degree heat with little sign of the temperature ever dropping. But Autumn days will return, and with them our next series of concerts.
We are convinced there really is something for everyone this time round. All the concerts will, of course, feature musicians of the highest calibre, but the four events couldn’t be more different. For our special, full length , concert on Sunday November 29, we are very fortunate to have engaged two really well-established Early Music groups. Chelys Consort of Viols, an ensemble of five stringed instruments of different sizes will, I think, be the first viol ensemble to play at our concerts. Fair Oriana delighted us in 2019, accompanied then by a single lute. Their pure, clear voices are ideally suited to the music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, especially when accompanied by the instruments of the era.
CarmenCo, on Sunday October 11, couldn’t be more different! You may remember their dramatic retelling of Carmen’s story three years ago. The ensemble’s new show is in similar vein, this time telling the story of Delilah. Some of the music is from Saint Saens’ opera but there’s bound to be some twists and surprises in store!
The opening concert on Sunday September 20, features the first wind quartet we have hosted for a while in a programme that includes Dvorjak and Amy Beech. The series is completed with a lovely guitar / flute duo from Wales on Sunday November 15 playing music from Piazolla to Ravel.
Full programmes for all the concerts are available here.
We hope you agree that this is an exciting series of musical events. Do consider buying a subscription to all concerts – it offers a considerable reduction in the price and may mean you are introduced to music you don’t yet know but will come to really love. Somehow we have managed to keep the prices the same as the last season. As you know, we receive no sponsorship or grants, and are totally reliant on ticket sales (especially subscriptions) to generate enough income to pay for the artists and the venue. Please bring your neighbours and tell your friends about us. We want even more people to come and enjoy the wonderful music.
We love to hear from you. Please get in touch with us via the website, give us face to face feedback at the concerts or write a comment in our new visitors’ book which will be in the foyer.
Booking for subscriptions opens on Saturday 15 August. You will have to wait until Saturday 29 August if you wish to purchase tickets for single concerts.
We are really looking forward to our Autumn 2026 series - get the dates in your diary - and we hope to see you there.
With warm regards,
Frome Concerts Group Committee:- Clive, Diana, Edith, Janet, Mary and Sarah
